Best-selling author Jamie Ford visits the Great Falls Book Store

Great Falls bestselling author Jamie Ford visits Cassiopeia Books on Central Avenue on Thursday, August 25, 2022. Ford signed his latest book, “The Many Daughters of Afong Moi”. TV series.

The book combines historical fiction and speculative fiction. It covers Afong Moi’s American life from her first arrival in the 1800s to her disappearance from the headlines, and traces her many descendants up to 2045.

“The book is about inherited injuries,” Ford said. “This sounds extreme so I like to call this my epigenetic love story. I will start the genetic line with a woman named Afong Moi. The first Chinese woman to come to America in the 1830s was a true historical figure. She brought her from Buffalo, New York to Cuba and toured the East Coast.

On the day of its release, “Today” show co-host Jenna Bush hailed Hager as the latest book club pick, earning strong support from the book club powerhouse. “It’s a big deal,” Ford said of being named a Read With Jenna Book Club selection. Jenna is Oprah’s heir as far as book clubs go. She has a big voice in the industry.

The television series is under Universal Content Production with Bush and Ford serving as executive producers.

“I was over the moon, I was excited,” Ford said. “It was a book I wasn’t sure would find an audience. To my surprise, people seem to be enjoying the book. I wrote most of the book when I was alone during the pandemic. I was alone in my head, hoping for the best with my imaginary friends.

Ford said that the company wants to do three seasons. He says that after the first episode, if it happens, the streaming service will buy the rights.

Ford spent the country on a book tour in early August. He enjoys the attention, but he likes to come home.

He was surprised to see such a large crowd at the Casseopeia Books signing: “I feel like we need a bigger venue, I’m so disappointed! But I really feel a lot of love. Many friends and family. Just people I’ve known over the course of my life here in Great Falls, so it’s great.

Ford in 2010 In 2009, “The Hotel on the Corner of Bittersweet” became a New York Times bestseller. He said the book was optioned for a movie several years ago, but he couldn’t explain the project’s status. Click here To visit his website.
