It’s good to be Bezos! As first reported by The Real Deal, Miguel and Jacqueline Bezos — the stepfather and mother, respectively, of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos — are widely believed to be paying $74 million for two side-by-side homes in the affluent city of Coral Gables, Florida. Seven miles south of Miami. Both homes are waterfront and tucked away in a guard-gated community, and together span four contiguous acres.
The two properties were sold by two different sellers. One of the transactions for a $34 million home closed last week. It cost Bezos’ parents $40 million, which he owns next door and is said to still be haunted. According to the New York Post, which cited unnamed sources, Jeff Bezos himself (unsurprisingly) helped cover the cost of this real estate investment.
The $34 million home was sold to Raul Colvoz, former CEO of PetsMD, and Raquel Corden, owner of the real estate agency. The couple bought the property in 2018 for “only” $8.5 million, but have extensively renovated and expanded it before putting it up for sale this year, asking $34.9 million.
The $40 million house next door is not on the market, but the one being sold to the Bezos is “Real Housewives of Miami” star Nicole Martin and her husband, Anthony M. Lopez paid $14 million for the house three years ago; He and Martin subsequently renovated the entire complex, and the “understated” property was recently photographed for Architectural Digest.
While the $74 million deal is clearly a hefty sum, it’s the latest in a series of massive real estate purchases in South Florida by wealthy investors from New York and abroad and billionaire tech moguls from Silicon Valley. Just two months ago, Oracle kingpin Larry Ellison bought a Palm Beach County estate for $173 million — the most money ever paid for a home in the Sunshine State.
As one of the world’s richest men, Bezos and his longtime partner Lauren Sanchez, a veteran journalist, own luxury homes across the United States. They’ve found several luxury homes on New York City’s posh Fifth Avenue, a historic Washington DC mansion, large homes in Seattle, and a $78 million oceanfront mansion on the Hawaiian island of Maui. But for now, the couple’s main residence remains a $165 million estate in Beverly Hills.
