LAPLACE – Voted “Best Realtor” by community members in 2021, Ched Edler has been ranked among the most respected real estate professionals in the Riverside area since entering the business four decades ago.
A lifelong reservation native, Edler graduated from East St. John High School in 1982 and spent the next few years working at various local businesses. A friend asked him if he was interested in real estate and offered to pay for the unit. From then on, there was no looking back, and Edler got his real estate license in August 1986.
Edler’s wife, Tina, said it was easy for people, including her own family, to look down on him because of his quiet and gentle demeanor.
“He proved everyone wrong and sold out,” she said.
Tina Edler added that her husband is a great, Christian man and a wonderful provider for their children.
Many changes have occurred in the industry since Edler became an agent for Latter & Blum. Paperwork has been around for a long time, and it has become more important than ever for current and future homeowners to understand the legal aspects of the transaction.
“When I’m dealing with people, I know this is the biggest purchase they’ll ever make in their lives. I want to reach a place where they remember. When I go to closing, I want to get to a point where that buyer knows everything they signed,” Edler said.
Edler has seen the ebb and flow of the housing market in and around St. John Parish. In the year He remembers walking through a Cambridge subdivision in the 1990s and seeing “For Sale by Owner” signs on every block.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the market was hot as interest rates were falling. Until Hurricane Ida hit, Edler was making as many as 18 offers on properties above list price. Although the market has cooled slightly due to rising interest rates, Adler is still finding success in selling homes. He enjoys being distracted by the daily real estate transactions in St. John’s Parish, and reminds the public that there is never too much to count.
The past 36 years have also brought changes in Adler’s personal life. He and his son CJ Edler formed the Edler Group along with Austin Vickner.
“We are not leaving Latter & Blum; We’re doing our own little thing,” Edler said. “We are renovating our current space in the Bailey Anduill Building, where we will be next to the Latter & Blum office.”
Entering the often confusing world of real estate, CJ Edler is grateful to have an experienced advisor by his side. While CJ often serves home buyers and sellers in the local area, his father sticks to what he knows best – serving the riverside neighborhoods.
“If any realtor leaves a bad taste in your mouth, it makes the rest of us think. We have to go out there and show them the way we handle people,” Edler said. “I pride myself on good service, hard work and knowing what I’m doing every day.”
Elaine Burns of Regions Mortgage in LaPlace often works closely with Adler and Latter & Blum, and considers her one of the best in the business.
“He’s not pushing me or the client. He gives good advice and helps them find what works for them,” Burns said.
Burns credits Edler with helping to streamline the process of selling her mother’s home — with the added bonus of going under contract in less than three weeks.
“I’ve talked to a lot of real estate agents, and none compare to Ched,” she says.
